Danish Birthday Man Cake

On Sunday we celebrated Shane's birthday with a big breakfast and a Danish "Kageman" or man cake. I remember this cake from my childhood when every child would have one at their birthday party. The dough is sort of a pastry dough made with eggs, flour and butter and then topped with icing and candy decorations. Thanks to Kirsten for the recipe! It's simple to make and I'll post the recipe later this week on this post.

Our family has a tradition of doughnuts for birthday breakfast and that's the only time of the year we splurge on this favorite treat. No birthday in our family is complete without doughnuts from the local Roth's grocery store. Yum!

  2. Yes, sorry! Here is the recipe straight from a Danish kitchen:

    1/4 lb butter
    1 cup water
    1 cup white flout
    3-4 eggs

Heat water and butter in pot. when melted add flour and keep heating and make it hot and cooked. Cool completely in pot (approx. 1 hour) then add eggs and stir well. Shape into desired figure on oiled cookie sheet and bake for 25 min at 350. Drizzle with glaze (powdered sugar and milk) and decorate with candy.
