Hygglit Jul

Christmas day hike at Silver Falls

The past week has been wonderful, like we're on vacation, as we've shown my Danish cousin Frederik and his family around Oregon. We've slept late, stayed up late, had special meals, way too much sugar and way too much coffee and let go our of regular chores and routines in favor of playing tourist and host to our family and now good friends.

Christmas 2010

Our family Christmas Picture 2010

This Christmas we were joined by my Danish cousin Frederik and his wife Kristin and their two daughters. They came for 9 days and we had a wonderful time together. Here are some photos from our Christmas.

Doll Days

The girls and I made these cloth dolls as part of our Colonial period study. We used the amazing new book called Wee Wonderfuls which includes lots of fun doll patterns.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Last night was the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Silverton. Our small town essentially shuts down as everyone comes out to the town square to see Santa rise up in a fire truck ladder and light the top of the tree with his magic wand. Since we live in town, a short walk from the town square, many friends meet at our house to bundle up and walk into town and then we end up back at our house for Glogg (Scandanvian spiced wine), hot chocolate and lots of treats. This year we packed 41 friends and neighbors into our home and had a wonderful time visting. Our friend Rebecca played Christmas carols as we sang around the piano. This yearly event and party is the highlight of the girls' Christmas season!
