felting fun

Today we had our first Silver Creek Homesteaders 4 H meeting with seven sweet girls. Felting little dolls, baking buttermilk biscuits and making jam were on the agenda. To felt these little dolls we took small bunches of raw, dyed wool and felted them into ropes by rubbing the wool together using wet hands and a little soap. We then cut the ropes into pieces for the arms, legs, torso and head and felted the head piece into a ball. We let the pieces dry by the fire while the girls made the biscuits and jam (they did the baking all on their own. I was so impressed by how they worked together to get the job done, including all the cleaning up). To finish up the dolls the girls hot glued the pieces together and then dressed the dolls using colored felt fibers and added wool hair. You can also use this Little Felt People kit to make these little dolls.

The last photo is unrelated, but we painted these wooden toadstool yesterday and I thought they were a cute addition to our woodland scene.
